How Long Should I Keep My Returns?

You should keep your returns until the statute of limitations runs for filing returns or filing for a refund. For most taxpayers, that means keeping those records generally a minimum of three years following the date of filing or the due date of your tax return, whichever is later.

In addition to the returns, keep supporting documentation for as long as the statute of limitations runs. Supporting documents for your tax returns include your w-2 forms and 1099’s and any other records to support deductions or credits you claim on your return.

For storing your records, we provide secure online storage. As for regular maintenance of your information, the easiest way is to let technology take care of your accounting. Questions? Want more information? Send us an email at solutions@jfbellgroup.com.
